Three Weeks In Europe

November 2021

Last November, I spent three week’s solo in Europe and had one of the best, most fulfilling experiences of my life. I visited the Netherlands, Belgium and France. In Amsterdam, I visited Anne Frank’s house, cruised the canal, shopped at a flea market, indulged in a delicious food tour and tasted the most decadent cheese of my life. I went for long walks and admired all of the bicyclists, I visited a coffee shop and felt free!! In Belgium, I had the best mussels, chocolate and beer to date! I also got to see a mannequin piss in a fountain. In Paris, I meandered around the Louvre and the Picasso museum, visited the catacombs, went bike riding and had a picnic at the Versailles palace and mastered the Metro system. In Bordeaux, WINE WINE WINE!

It was my first time in Europe in the Winter and I was looking forward to sightseeing in cooler temperatures. Summers can be really hot. The weather was mostly grey, rainy and COLD. I spent the entire time with an icy chill in my bone and slightly damp, but all the more reason to tuck into a warm meal and glass of wine.

I flew in from New York City to Paris and jumped on the train three hours up north to the Netherlands. I spent five days in Amsterdam then hopped back on the train for an hour and a half south to Brussels. I stayed in Belgium for three days before heading back down to Paris. I got a hotel room for four days in Paris before taking the train down to Bordeaux France where I stayed for seven days. I had Thanksgiving in this adorable Airbnb and shopped for my meal at the farmer’s market. I visited the vineyards and did a food tour. I met lots of lovely people.

My trip was supposed to be six weeks but the Omicron variant of covid-19 started to pick up in Europe so I decided to end it early. I had plans to travel around France to Toulouse, Lyon, Dijon and Champagne but instead took the train back up to Paris flying directly back to NYC.

My time was cut short but it didn’t feel like it. I was so full on experiences and life and this change in plans now gives me a reason to visit France again.

I had such a great experience. One of the best ever!
