Tulum Tulum

Tulum, August 2021

I had the privilege of staying in this sexy, vibrant, bohemian town in the beginning of August and I had a wonderful time. Tulum is one of the most expensive parts of Mexico and that’s because of tourism. It’s fast become one of the hot spots for fulfilling your Instagram dreams. The sculptures and chic resorts, the boutique hotels and great restaurants down to the cenotes and ruins and adventure for all ages. Tulum is a place to visit at least once if you love Mexico and adventure.

But I repeat...It's expensive!

I'm talking $12 Modelos and $40 taxi rides just to go a few miles, you find yourself clawing, begging for a decent price somewhere. Mexico is supposed to be a place where we can catch a peso break!

You can occasionally catch that break if you go out of the hotel zone and into town with the locals. You can get great prices for tacos and chicken mole but unless you rent a car or rent a bicycle, you’ll be paying that $40 I mentioned for a taxi.

So if you don’t mind a splurge on a good time, wellness meditation and yoga like I did, then definitely check out Tulum! There are so many things to see and do in the Yucatán, you and your family won’t be bored at all. In fact, I’ve been to the Yucatán at least 5 times but this was my first time heading south to Tulum.

Mexico is one of my favorite countries and I find myself always going back. I listed all of the places that I visited and things you can do if you decide to visit. You won’t be disappointed.

I have a travel saying when I can’t decide where I want to vacation:

“When in doubt…Mexico!”

Stay:

I stayed at the Serena Glamping Hotel super sexy and lush green set in the jungle. You have the option of staying in a glamp tent decked out with running water and a comfy bed or a hotel room set in a treehouse to give you that jungle feel. I stayed 1 night in the tent to test it out. I actually liked it a lot. It was spacious and comfortable but the air conditioning wasn't as strong and I saw a lizard on the inside of my tent wall. I then spent the rest of my week in a room up in the treehouse. This room was also very comfortable. It was a bit smaller than the tent but the air conditioning worked nicely. The staff was super friendly and accommodating.

Eat:

One of my favorite restaurants where I found myself eating about 4 times that week, is the restaurant at Hotel Piedra Escondida Tulum. They are right on the beach and have a great vibe and the food is amazing.  Fresh fish, juicy steak and delicious cocktails. When you buy a meal you can use their beach chairs to enjoy the sun and water.
